The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
At Biloxi City Hall, Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich proclaimed today a National Day of Prayer for the City of Biloxi.

In the City of Biloxi, the day has been celebrated at city hall since 1994, organized by Carleen Hall.
Stanley Hall, Carleen’s husband, said, “She saw that there wasn’t anything going on as far as National Day of Prayer is concerned. So, she had this urging, this desire to start something.”

Dozens of students from All Saints Catholic School took part in the National Day of Prayer service on the lawn at city hall in Alpena on Thursday.
ALPENA For about an hour, the front steps and lawn at city hall in Alpena was transformed into a makeshift church, as about 100 residents and religious leaders gathered together Thursday to celebrate the National Day of Prayer.
The theme of the event was “Lord, pour out your love, life, and liberty,” and featured prayers asking God to help bring people, the nation, and the world together.
