OCCHD Hosts Largest Mobile Campaign To Administer COVID-19 Vaccines

By: Anjelicia Bruton OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City-County Health Department said it wants to make sure everyone has access to COVID-19 vaccines, even if it means bringing the shot to you. OCCHD parked its mobile vaccine at Sunday’s Cinco De Mayo Festival at Scissortail Park. Inside the van were 200 COVID-19 vaccines ready to be administered. “We ve already vaccinated about a dozen or so individuals today,” OCCHD spokesperson L’Toya Knighten said. “Many of them are from the Spanish-speaking community, but also all demographics are represented here today down at Scissortail Park.” The department had the Johnson & Johnson along with the Pfizer vaccines on hand. Its mission with the mobile vaccination van is to provide a quick and easy process.

Hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans are now vaccinated against COVID-19, but health experts say those numbers need to continue to climb.And there s a specific group that officials are looking at, young people. We really need those individuals who are 18 to 35, 18 to 40 even, to understand the importance of getting the vaccine, said LToya Knighten, chief of government affairs for the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. But we also need that younger age demographic to understand that our hospitalizations right now, while they are flat and flatter than they have been here in the past six to nine months.
