EUGENE, Ore. – Motivated by loosened restrictions and a year of pandemic lockdowns, this Memorial Day weekend is expected to be a busy one for travelers.
Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management is urging travelers to plan ahead, add travel time and expect delays as people fly, ride or drive to various destinations.
According to AAA, traffic rates are almost back to normal. An estimated 485,000 Oregonians are planning a trip to kick off summer, the vast of majority of which plan to drive to their destination.

The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management have thinned by hand, machines and prescribed burns about 1.8 million acres (728,000 hectares) of forest and brushland since last season, officials from the agencies told The Associated Press. They typically treat some 3 million (1.2 million hectares) acres every year.
