He’s also an entrepreneur making investments in the Ohio Valley that he believes will have a great impact on the community for years to come. Two of his biggest projects sit on either side of the Ohio River. He purchased the shuttered East Ohio Regional Hospital last spring and is working to reopen it this month. But that wasn’t his first investment in the Ohio Valley.

Dr. John Johnson MARTINS FERRY Dr. John Johnson isn’t just a psychiatrist he’s also an entrepreneur who is making investments in the Ohio Valley that he believes will have a great impact on the community for years to come. Johnson purchased the shuttered East Ohio Regional Hospital last spring and is working to reopen it this month. But that wasn’t his first investment in the Ohio Valley. In 2012 he bought the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel headquarters in downtown Wheeling. He announced recently that with help from developer Steven Coon of Coon Restoration & Sealants Inc. of Canton, Ohio, it will be turned into an apartment building with 110 units.

WHEELING An effort is being made to explore increasing police staffing levels in Wheeling, where the police chief says the department does a great job being “reactive” to reports of crimes but would serve the city even better if more “proactive” police work could be done. Some city leaders in Wheeling have contended that more patrols on the streets are what is needed to best keep crime in check. On at least two occasions over the past month, Wheeling Councilman Ben Seidler has publicly noted that there has been a noticeable uptick in criminal activity in areas of the city.

Jan 16, 2021 It’s only two weeks into the new year, and city officials in Wheeling should call an abrupt end to 2021. Right now, it doesn’t appear as if things can get much better with two major announcements already taking place. We reported earlier this month on the proposal by Bluefield State College to utilize a portion of the former Ohio Valley Medical Center for an engineering program, which could bring several hundred students to Center Wheeling. That was followed a few days later by a project that city leaders and developer Steve Coon have been working to announce for nearly three years: redevelopment of the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. downtown headquarters, the Schmulbach Building on Market Street, into loft apartments.

East Ohio Regional Hospital to be Blessed During Ceremony | News, Sports, Jobs

For the Intelligencer Photo Provided – East Ohio Regional Hospital is scheduled to be blessed during a closed ceremony Wednesday. It is expected to reopen under new ownership at a later date. MARTINS FERRY – In preparation for its future reopening, East Ohio Regional Hospital will be blessed Wednesday. Michael Garrison, hospital spokesman, said the non-denominational blessing will take place with local clergy, hospital officials and media in attendance. It will not be open to the public because the hospital still is getting ready to reopen. Chief Operating Officer Bernie Albertini said Dr. Michael Tatro, an emergency medical specialist, and the Rev. William Webster, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, will help lead the event.
