A ranking official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) admitted Saturday, April 10 that the distribution of the national government’s cash aid in populous barangays of Metro Manila and four adjacent provinces under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) has been a struggle.
“We are on the third day (April 10) ng pamimigay ng ayuda and maraming lessons learned dito (in the payout of the cash assistance and we learned numerous lessons from this” said DILG Undersecretary officer-in-charge (OIC) Bernardo Florece in an interview on ABS-CBN’s TeleRadyo.
“Sa ibang lugar na konti lang ang beneficiaries, maganda naman. The other day (April 8), nandoon ako sa Mandaluyong (City) ang ibinibigay nila bagama’t simultaneous ito sa lahat ng barangay, 500 lang per day ang idini-distribute nila compared to Quezon City na malaki ang constituents nila ginawa nilang 2,000 (recipients) per day pero may schedule pa rin, (In othe

Belmonte said they have been able to set aside a “few” funds in case the city experiences the “worst case scenario” amid the ongoing pandemic.
“Kasi alam naman natin na sa ibang mga bansa, kahit sa first world countries, nag thi-third surge na sila, ‘no? Third wave (Because we know that in other countries, even first world countries, they are already experience the third surge, third wave of infections),” she said in a Laging Handa press briefing.
This is the reason, Belmonte said, that the local government could not release more funds to increase the P4,000 cash assistance to be received by her consituents, which is given by the national government following the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
