Carroll Man Arrested On Burglary Charge After Forcibly Entering Residence Saturday Morning

A Carroll man was taken into custody during the early morning hours on Saturday after allegedly breaking into a residence. According to Carroll County District Court records, 26-year-old Joshua Daniel Lepird was arrested at approximately 1:50 a.m. on a charge of second-degree burglary, a class C felony. The Carroll Police Department was dispatched to the 1100 block of N. Adams Street in response to a report of a burglary in progress. Upon searching the home, authorities located Lepird hiding in one of the residence’s rooms. Law enforcement alleges he forcibly entered the home by kicking in the front door to confront the two adult occupants. Police note Lepird did not possess any weapons when he entered the home and no injuries were reported following the incident. Lepird was transported to the Carroll County jail and later released after appearing before a magistrate.

Newton Woman Charged With Assaulting Carroll Law Enforcement Sentenced Thursday

A Newton woman accused of attacking police officers during her arrest in January was sentenced Thursday to 10 days in jail. According to Carroll County District Court records, 26-year-old Alicia Ngubane was originally charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, a serious misdemeanor, stemming from an incident on Jan. 17 in the 1200 block of Plaza Drive in Carroll. Authorities say they were called to the scene in response to an altercation at Ossy’s Show Club. Upon arrival, officers located Ngubane and another patron involved in an argument. She was ordered to vacate the property, but she refused and was arrested for trespassing. Ngubane resisted being taken into custody, kicking one officer in the chest and spitting in the face of a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy. As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Ngubane pled guilty to a simple misdemeanor assault on a peace officer count, and was sentenced to 60 days in the Carroll County jail with all but 10 days sus

Probation Revoked For Carroll County Man Convicted In April For Lascivious Acts With A Child

A Manning man has been ordered to serve up to 10 years in prison on an April lascivious acts with a child conviction after violating the terms of his probation. According to Carroll County District Court records, 20-year-old Michael John William Lyons’ probation was revoked following a hearing on Friday. A Department of Correctional Services report shows Lyons was arrested on April 21 for failing to properly register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, just over two weeks after his April 5 conviction. Lyons’ 10-year sentence on the class C felony charge will be served concurrently with two five-year sentences handed down in 2018 after he pled guilty to first-degree and second-degree thefts in Audubon and Mills Counties. Lyons was arrested in June 2020 after a Carroll Police Department investigation determined he had engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old female victim between April 15 and May 31 of last year.
