Sex offender sentenced in Guernsey County court to 10 years in prison

The Daily Jeffersonian A Cambridge man accused of sexual crimes against a then-juvenile girl in 2009 was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday during a hearing in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Thomas G. Wilson, 50, was sentenced to consecutive five-year prison terms after entering negotiated guilty pleas to two counts of gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies. The court also informed Wilson of his duties to register as a sex offender or child victim offender, as required by Ohio law. He was denied bond and remanded into the custody of the Guernsey County Jail to await transport to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections to begin serving his prison sentence.

Commissioners approve new location, security measures for impound lot

New security fencing, cameras and lighting estimated to cost $15,000 The Daily Jeffersonian Guernsey County commissioners recently approved funding for improvements to a county-owned lot in downtown Cambridge for the relocation of the sheriff s impound lot. The estimated cost for new fencing, security cameras and lighting at the new location near the intersection of Wheeling Avenue and North Fourth Street is $15,000. Security and convenience come into play, said Commissioner Dave Wilson of the plan to relocate the impound lot from a rural location on Old 21 Road (County Road 35) north of Cambridge into the city. The current lot does not have the security cameras and lighting that will be available at the new location. Access to the lot can be difficult for tow trucks bringing impounded vehicles and equipment to the rural location.

Police locate parolee in stolen vehicle outside Clark Street store

The Daily Jeffersonian A man on parole for felony crimes in Ashland County is facing new, unrelated charges after Cambridge police officers found him sitting in the driver s seat of a stolen vehicle parked outside a Clark Street convenience store Wednesday afternoon. Michael E. Galloway, 58, remained incarcerated in the Guernsey County Jail on a parole violation hold issued by the Adult Parole Authority at the request of Cambridge police officers. The vehicle, a 2010 Mercedes Benz, was reported stolen from Belmont County. Local charges are expected to be filed against Galloway on Monday, according to Kent Biegler of the Guernsey County Prosecuting Attorney s Office.
