Rep. Adam Schiff, who infuriated President Donald Trump during his first impeachment, is making a play to be named the next attorney general in California.
Schiff built a national profile during committee hearings before Trump s impeachment, drawing regular Twitter attacks from Trump online, then serving as a House impeachment manager during the Senate trial.
Now, the Democratic lawyer who represents a Los Angeles-based district is making a pitch to be appointed to become the state s top law enforcement officer, after the nomination of Xavier Becerra run the Department of Health and Human Services.

It was the end of April just as the U.S. confirmed its millionth covid-19 case and 50,000 deaths when White House adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci announced “highly significant” news about a drug called remdesivir.
That was surprising because the antiviral drug, owned by Gilead Sciences and developed with investment from the federal government, had languished for years with no apparent commercial use. It had struck out as a treatment for hepatitis C and Ebola.
But early in 2020, when the first global cases of a new pneumonia-like viral illness emerged in China, Gilead resurfaced the compound, branded as Veklury, and shared it with scientists across the globe. From the Oval Office, Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said remdesivir would be the “standard of care” for treating coronavirus disease.

Newsom will wait to announce California AG until Becerra confirmed
OAKLAND, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom confirmed on Wednesday that he will wait until Attorney General Xavier Becerra is confirmed as President Joe Biden s Health and Human Services secretary before announcing a replacement. I m very close to making that decision, Newsom said, but our current attorney general is still the current attorney general, has not been formally confirmed by the United States Senate, and so the timing of a public announcement will be determined on the basis of that confirmation.

Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed Guenoc Valley Mixed Use Planned Development (Guenoc Valley) Project. Although the Guenoc Valley Project is located in a high fire risk zone that has burned repeatedly in recent years, Lake County finalized an EIR in July 2020 that fails to adequately analyze and mitigate the increased wildfire risk associated with the project, as well as the greenhouse gas emissions and other adverse environmental impacts. In today’s motion, Attorney General Becerra seeks to ensure that Lake County discloses and mitigates the impacts of the Guenoc Valley Project in a manner that fully complies with the California Environmental Quality Act.
Biden Administration Asks Court to Pause Litigation on California Emissions Waiver
The Biden administration has called for a halt in litigation over the Trump administration’s decision to revoke California’s ability to set its own vehicle emissions standards, according to reports.
The Hill reported that in a judicial filing on Monday, the Biden administration asked for court proceedings to be put on pause until 30 days after the administration’s review of a number of Trump-era environmental policies is completed.
Biden issued an executive order on his first day in office that directed federal agencies to review a bevy of Trump administration rules and executive actions, aiming to reverse Trump-era orders that Biden says harm the environment or endanger public health.
