Native American CEAH scholarship winners announced May 14, 2021 The recently established Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities at The University of New Mexico announced its inaugural awardees of the undergraduate Native American Environmental Arts and Humanities Scholarship. This interdisciplinary scholarship is awarded to Native American students at UNM who have demonstrated excellence during their undergraduate tenure and who are interested in art and ecology, social justice, environmental justice, and/or species conservation.  Awardees for this year’s scholarship come from colleges across UNM, majoring in Native American Studies, Political Science, Population Health, Journalism and Mass Communication, Psychology, and Business. Joshua Mike-Bidtah is a Diné student in his senior year in the College of Fine Arts, working toward a major in the Film and Digital Media Arts Program with a minor in Animation.

Inclement weather moves UTRGV graduation ceremonies indoors 5 hours 49 minutes 10 seconds ago Wednesday, May 12 2021 May 12, 2021 May 12, 2021 4:01 PM May 12, 2021 in News - Local By: KRGV Digital Share: Previously scheduled outdoor, in-person graduation ceremonies for the UTRGV Class of 2020 will now be held indoors due to inclement weather, the university announced Wednesday. More than 1,800 certified spring, summer and fall 2020 graduates will participate in the three-day event that runs from Thursday, May 13 to Saturday, May 15. “Originally, all ceremonies were scheduled to be held outdoors, but due to forecasted inclement weather for the weekend, UTRGV has decided to move ceremonies indoors at both UTRGV Brownsville and Edinburg campuses,” the university said in a news release.

Phylicia Rashad Becomes The Dean Of Howard University’s College Of Fine Arts Congratulations to Phylicia Rashad! The actress has been named the new Dean of Howard University’s College of Fine Arts.  Rashad, who is an alumna of the historically Black university, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in 1970.  She will report directly to Provost Anthony K. Wutoh.  Provost Wutoh said in a statement on the University’s website, “Rashad’s appreciation for the arts and student success makes her perfect for the role.”  He continued, “It is an honor to welcome one of Howard’s acclaimed daughters back home to Alma Mater. In this full-circle moment, Ms. Phylicia Rashad will take the training and skills that she honed as a student at Howard and exuded in an outstanding performing career, and she will share those pearls of wisdom with the next generation of students in the College of Fine Arts.”
