After the announcement of results on Sunday (May 2), Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that it s a disappointment for the party, but it gave a tough fight to the LDF in Kerala. It s a day of disappointment for many of my friends and colleagues in @INCKerala. You fought a good fight. The energy & commitment I`ve seen from you is the party`s greatest strength. We must not be disheartened. There is work ahead to renew & revive our party, & to serve the people, Shashi Tharoor tweeted.

New Delhi, May 2 : As the counting of votes reached the last few rounds across the state s 140 Assembly constituencies, the LDF is leading in the majority of seats, with the Congress-led United Democratic Front trailing. Former CPM Secretary General Prakash Karat said that this mandate is for the work done for the people by the incumbent government.
Karat said, In the past 40 years no government has been re-elected for a second successive term and this is a significant mandate by the people which shows that the people of Kerala appreciated the work of the Pinarayi Vijayan government the way it tackled the floods, COVID pandemic and its pro-people development in the state.

Some anxiety among cadre as two veterans had not been fielded
When the CPI(M) decided not to field two veterans- Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac and Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran and the CPI opting to keep Food and Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman away from the poll fray in the 2021 Assembly polls, there was some anxiety among the Left front workers.
Some of them, especially in Alappuzha and Ambalappuzha expressed their feelings through social media posts, while a few posters also appeared in these constituencies against the party’s choices to replace Dr. Isaac and Mr. Sudhakaran respectively.
Effective implementation of welfare schemes has helped chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan lead the left democratic front (LDF), rewrite history, and return to power in Kerala. This is the first time in history that an incumbent chief minister came back to power after completing a full term. Kerala alternates between UDF and LDF even when governments perform reasonably well. Except in 1977, no ruling front has been re-elected.
The LDF, a coalition, is likely to win 99 out of the 140 seats in the Kerala assembly. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in the remaining 41 seats.
In the 2016 elections, the LDF had won 91 seats, and UDF had won 47 seats.
