assumed. Why else would a House Democrat publicly blast a Democratic president for border-security and humanitarian issues? The New York Times reports that while some of the facilities at the border have become less crowded, it’s because they’ve transferred illegally-entering children to other facilities which are almost at capacity as well:
Biden administration officials have insisted that they have gotten better control of a surge of migrant children that has swamped detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border.
But documents obtained by The New York Times indicate that the problem has moved to other facilities, like convention centers in Dallas, San Diego and Long Beach, Calif., which are nearing capacity as funds for more space are scarce. …
Democrats, however, slammed the bill and said that it was a means to make voting harder.
“It is old Jim Crow dressed up in what our colleagues are calling election integrity,” Democratic state Rep. Jessica Gonzalez said on the House floor.
“We don’t need to wait for bad things to happen to protect the security of our election,” Cain responded. “I don’t believe that this is voter suppression, I believe it is voter enhancement.”
Democrats have sharply objected over a provision that bans Texas county election officials from sending absentee ballot request forms to voters automatically. Corporations are also opposed to the bill, and over 50 of them signed an open letter disparaging “any changes” that would make it harder to vote.

Conditions for about 2,000 migrant teen boys at the temporary emergency shelter in downtown Dallas are worrying advocates and former contract employees.
The boys at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center suffer from a lack of fresh air and sunlight, depression and limited access to phones to call their families. Fights have broken out among the boys as tensions have risen.

AUSTIN Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick promised Thursday to bring contentious legislation to the Senate floor next week that would let people carry handguns without a license and training, though he’s pressing for changes favored by law enforcement.
