Multiple earthquakes rattle northern California and Nevada as U.S. Geological Survey records magnitude 5.9 earthquake near Smith Valley
The US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, that was about six miles deep, about 3:50 p.m. local time
The earthquake happened south of Topaz Lake and about 20 miles from Smith Valley, Nevada near the Nevada-California border
It was felt across northern California including parts of the Bay Area and Sacramento and parts of Nevada on Thursday afternoon
Just minutes later, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reportedly recorded near Farmington in San Joaquin County, officials said
However, that earthquake has since been removed from the USGS website

As of 9:20 p.m. Friday, the Prison Hill fire is 15 percent contained according to Carson City Fire officials. The fire is estimated at 200 acres. Firefighters are expected to be on scene overnight, officials said on Twiitter. Please stay out of the area where firefighters are working.
Fairview Drive will continue to be closed, Carson River Road and Fairview are open to nearby residents.

7:35 p.m. update:
As of 7:35 p.m. the fire was 20% contained. Fire officials said most of the fireâs growth was to the east side of the hill. Air support and ground crews have been battling the fire.
5:45 p.m. update:
Austin Wayne Rivers was taken into custody without incident and is being booked at the Carson City Jail. Escaped inmate Cody J. Abernathy remains at large.

One inmate who escaped from the Carson City Detention Center on Saturday has been captured and a warrant has been issued for a Carson City man accused of aiding the escape, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Matthew R. Marizza, 27, was apprehended Sunday in Sacramento, California, following a high-speed chase of a truck reported stolen in Carson City.
Cody J. Abernathy, 28, who escaped with Marizza on Saturday, remains at large.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Two inmates escaped Carson City Jail in Nevada around 6:43 p.m. on June 26 during an inmate work program assignment.
With the help of the Sacramento County Sheriff s Department, one of the two inmates, Matthew Marizza, 27, was re-detained on June 26. As of 5:30 p.m., Carson City Sheriff arrested the two s suspected accomplice, Austin Rivers, 29.
Carson City Sheriff s Department is still searching for the second inmate, Cody Abernathy, 28.
