Guidance has been updated for livestock markets following the new lockdown
Livestock sales conducted within a mart have been told to adopt a drop and go policy with immediate effect as a result of the latest lockdown.
Updated guidance has been issued by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association (LAA) to ensure continued safe trade within livestock markets.
It comes as the government announced on 4 January to place England into full lockdown restrictions as a result of the increased Covid-19 threat.
The devolved UK governments all agreed that livestock markets play a vital role in the efficient supply of product into the food chain.

Livestock farmers have been urged to work with auctioneers and be aware of demand
Farmers have been told to take advantage of the resources available through livestock auctioneers and benefit from a strong home market demand, amid the disruption at ports recently.
While export markets were temporarily closed due to the the new variant of Covid-19, the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association (LAA) says a strong home market demand had provided a boost.
Auctioneers have been monitoring the situation, keeping farmers abreast of an evolving situation, exacerbated by the delays and disruptions at UK ports.
The Cumbrian farming community has welcomed the announcement that a trade deal has at last been agreed between the UK Government and the EU. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has agreed with European Commission president Ursula Von der Leyen that the deal, from January 1, will mean no tariffs on each.

The festive tradition of bidding for a farm-fresh Christmas turkey is still going ahead at some Norfolk poultry markets this year - under strict coronavirus safety precautions.
Despite the restrictions enforced by the coronavirus pandemic, there will still be opportunities to claim a locally-reared centre-piece for the festive dinner table.
In Aylsham, of hundreds of turkeys, geese, chickens and ducks from small local producers will go under the hammer at Keys’ annual Christmas Poultry Sale on December 21.
