A huge power outage has affected Royston (file photo). - Credit: Archant A faulty underground cable caused the huge power cut in Royston at the weekend. The incident started Saturday morning and meant that supermarkets had to close and households were left without power. Further outages have also been reported since Saturday.  A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks told the Crow: Power was interrupted to 8,558 customers in Royston at 9.41am on Saturday due to a high voltage underground cable fault. UK Power Networks engineers worked quickly and safely to restore power to almost 2,000 customers before 10am with the majority of customers restored in stages by 1.30pm. 164 were restored before 3pm and the final customers by 5pm.

Norwich Thickthorn Services could get EV charging points

Published: 3:50 PM January 17, 2021    A new project will aim to tempt more electric vehicle charging point companies to invest in Norwich and the surrounding areas. - Credit: UK Power Networks The east s electricity network operator is joining up with local authorities for a pilot project aiming to extend electric vehicle (EV) provision in Norwich. UK Power Networks said it is working with Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council to address EV blackspots in the fine city. As part of the Charge Collective scheme, areas that are yet to install enough charging points will be identified so plans can be put in place to extend provision, in a bid to entice more people into switching to an EV.
