Delaware County emergency personnel and first responders will gather the morning of June 14 for a hazardous-materials spill training drill on the recently completed Home Road extension, which runs near Graphics Way, east of U.S. Route 23 in Orange Township.
County communications director Jane Hawes said the Delaware County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct the drill as if it were a real disaster event. Conducting these drills is an important part of maintaining preparedness, and we are excited to get back to doing them (in real life) and not just virtually. It is worth noting that while many counties in Ohio are opting not to hold such drills this year, Delaware County will continue safely with this important preparedness activity, Hawes said.

Acknowledging shared struggles is at the heart of the 2021 One Community Conference presented by the Olentangy Schools.
The seventh annual event, which focuses on respecting diversity and building community, is being held virtually over a number of days. Before the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the conference was a daylong affair of keynote speakers, student presentations and a resource fair.
”Healing Through One Community” began with an “MLK Day of Service” on Jan. 19, for which community members could prepare donation packages for local nonprofits that address domestic violence. Jackie Merkle, curriculum supervisor of equity and inclusion whose office oversees the conference, said cars were lined up on Graphics Way to make donations at the district administration offices, 7840 Graphics Way.

The overlay also includes several distinct zoning areas, including for mixed-use and multifamily residential development.
“The main goal of the overlay is to attract commercial development. There are different areas, and housing is in high demand right now,” trustee Ryan Rivers said. “Commercial will come, but no surprise if the first applications are housing.”
Township zoning director Michele Boni said developers have held pre-application meetings with the township staff and two members of the zoning commission.
The overlay language was adopted by the township zoning commission based on the proposed Route 23 corridor guide.
