Climber Dies On Mt Hood | Z100 Portland | Portland Local News

May 31, 2021 A climber died in a fall on Sunday at Mt. Hood. The 63-year-old man and his son were descending the mountain using the popular Old Chute route when he fell 500 feet. Rescuers had to use caution reaching the man s location, because of dangerous vents where toxic gases are released from the volcano. The man was dead when they reached him. He was brought down the mountain on a sled to Timberline Lodge. His name has not been released. The Clackamas County Sheriff s Office says this can be a dangerous time to climb the mountain, because warm temperatures can cause a lot of ice and rocks to fall.
