The bandh called by Dalit groups in Maharashtra was called off on Wednesday after the state witnessed protests, sporadic violence, road and rail traffic disruption.
Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dalit icon BR Ambedkar, called off the shutdown around 4:30 PM. Ambedkar had given the strike call on Tuesday after wide-spread protests in Mumbai.
The first monsoon rains hit Maharashtra and Mumbai with full fury on Wednesday, hitting local trains and road traffic, and flooding low-lying areas in the country s commercial capital, officials said here.

Moderate rainfall on Wednesday has led to traffic diversions and road closures due to waterlogging in various parts of Mumbai. Some of the key roads that were worst affected by the rains inclue the Western Express Highway (WEH), Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and the Eastern Freeway.
Andheri subway has been temporarily closed due to waterlogging, Dahisar subway will follow suit, said an official. Waterlogging was reported along the SV Road as well, stunting vehicular movement.
