HADLEY A Hatfield man whose vehicle was stopped for speeding on River Drive Sunday night was arrested on firearms and impaired driving charges, according to Hadley Police.
Garret R. Pitts, 28, was taken into custody at 9:31 p.m. on charges of carrying a firearm while intoxicated, improper storage of a firearm, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, speeding, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, said Police Chief Michael Mason.
Pitts pleaded not guilty to the charges in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown on Monday and was released with conditions. He is expected back in court on Sept. 15.
UMass Professor Faces OUI Charges After Hitting Baby In Stroller
A UMass Amherst professor was arraigned Tuesday morning on the charges of driving under the influence and allegedly hitting a baby stroller with her car. The stroller was carrying a 17-month old child. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
The incident happened in Hadley Monday afternoon in the Mountain Farms parking lot. According to WHDH/7 News Boston, officers responding to a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. learned that a black BMW driven by Tammy Haut-Donahue, 43, of Amherst, had hit the baby stroller.

BELCHERTOWN Two Belchertown residents allegedly selling drugs from their Sargent Street home were arrested at their residence early Thursday morning, police said.
Timothy Hayward, 47, and Ashley St. Laurent, 33, both of 89 Sargent St., were taken into custody at 6:05 a.m. by members of the Northwestern District Anti-Crime Task Force and officers of the Belchertown Police Department after the execution of a search warrant.
Both were arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, while Hayward is also facing a charge of possession of heroin, with intent to distribute, subsequent offense. St. Laurent is also facing a charge of possession of heroin.
