Proverbially, crossing the aisle in American politics means reaching out to cooperate with the opposite political party. On Wednesday, top Democrat Steny Hoyer literally crossed the aisle to the Republican side on the House floor, but not to extend a hand of friendship.
He was carrying an oversized poster featuring a Facebook post by Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, showing her carrying a rifle, next to photoshopped photos of Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, three progressive House members. They re not the Squad, Hoyer told the Republicans of the congresswomen targeted by Greene s post. They re Ilhan. They re Alexandria. They re Rashida. They are people. They are our colleagues.

Democrats in the United States House of Representatives are moving forward with a vote on Thursday to strip Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments.
Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on Wednesday said Greene’s actions on social media, which included a suggestion Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be executed, were unacceptable.
“She came to Congress with extraordinarily hostile rhetoric and hostile actions,” Hoyer told reporters.
“Her actions in the Congress have been consistent and she has placed many members in fear for their welfare.”
Democrats have called for Greene’s removal from Congress amid heightened tensions following a deadly riot at the US Capitol on January 6 by supporters of former US President Donald Trump, who has since been impeached in the House for his role in inciting the insurrection.

The push for sanctions against Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene continues. Representatives voting today on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resolution to kick Greene off the Education and Labor and Budget committees for harassing Parkland survivors, spreading conspiracy theories about the mass shooting and insisting the election was stolen from Donald Trump. Greene says the effort will only result in retaliation for Democrats. Miami s three House Republicans haven t said how they will vote, but Carlos Gimenez and Mario Diaz-Balart aren t in favor of expelling her from Congress.
