SALT deduction cap repeal: Gottheimer and Suozzi discuss tax cuts

View Comments The USA TODAY Network Atlantic Group will host a panel discussion with Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-New York, and Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-New Jersey, on efforts to repeal the federal cap on state and local tax deductions. The cap, enacted by a Republican-led Congress in 2017, limited so-called SALT deductions at $10,000 a year.  Congressional Democrats including Suozzi and Gottheimer are pursuing the repeal as a negotiating point in President Joe Biden s infrastructure package. Those in favor of repealing the SALT cap say they are fighting for a tax cut for middle-class homeowners. The panel, to be hosted by Stacey Barchenger of the USA TODAY Network New Jersey State House team, will also include Joseph Spector, USA TODAY Network Atlantic Group politics editor, and David McKay Wilson, veteran Tax Watch columnist for lohud and The Journal News.
