NCAA & NJCAA OTF National Athletes of the Week (April 27)
NEW ORLEANS – National Athletes of the Week for April 27 were announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Here are those individuals who earned national honors from the USTFCCCA for their efforts during the continuing outdoor track & field season.
NCAA Division I Men – JuVaughn Harrison, LSU
NCAA Division I Women – Tamara Clark, Alabama
NCAA Division II Men – Decio Andrade, Angelo State
NCAA Division II Women – Eilish Flanagan, Adams State
NCAA Division III Men – Kyle Rollins, St. John Fisher
NCAA Division III Women – Esther Seeland, Messiah
Tonea Marshall clocked 12.53w (+2.6) in the 100H to extend her national lead in the event, while
Symone Mason moved up to No. 2 in the 100 with her 11.02. Those two teamed up with
Favour Ofili and
Themla Davies to post the top time in the 4×100 of 42.70.
The second-ranked Razorbacks earned three top-10 nationally ranked marks to help solidify the team’s positioning.
Lauren Martinez led the way with her season best clearance of 4.39m (14-4¾) in the pole vault. That moves her to No. 6 on the Descending Order List.
Tiana Wilson and
Yoveinny Mota also had strong showings in their respective events: Wilson in the 400 (No. 7, 51.71); Mota in the 100H (No. 10, 12.91w (+2.8)).
LSU not only maintained its position atop the National TFRI, but strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot. The Tigers received three different national-leading efforts this past weekend at the LSU Alumni Gold, headlined by
JuVaughn Harrison’s otherworldly long jump of 8.44m (27-8¼) that made him the sixth-best performer in collegiate history. Not to be outdone,
Noah Williams turned one lap in 44.30 to equal the 12th-fastest performer in collegiate history, while
Sean Burrell topped the 400H list at 49.12. Other notable performances were turned in by
Eric Edwards Jr. in the 110H (No. 5, 13.46),
Sean Dixon-Bodie in the triple jump (No. 7, 16.35m/53-7¾), as well as the 4×100 relay team (No. 2, 38.58).
