Marion Mayor shares personal recovery, hospitalization from COVID-19

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Jan 28, 2021 4:30 AM (Marion) After a couple of days in the hospital, Victor Contreras, the mayor for the city of Marion, is back at home recovering from the COVID-19 virus. After allowing him to rest a few more days, the Seguin Daily News caught up with Contreras who wanted to share some personal insight into the reality of this very dangerous pandemic. Mass vaccinations events may come soon

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Jan 22, 2021 4:48 AM (Seguin) Local officials have put together a plan that will allow a large number of COVID-19 vaccinations to be given to the public. The joint mass vaccine plan was submitted this week to the Texas Department of State Health Services. It’s a collaboration between Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC), Guadalupe County and the city of Seguin. Guadalupe County Emergency Management Coordinator Patrick Pinder says they have already identified a site for the mass vaccination events in Seguin, and they are working on finding at least two other sites in Guadalupe County. “Over the past few weeks, the county has been seeing the need for more COVID vaccines here in Guadalupe County. We have seen Bexar County and surrounding areas receiving these large allocations and we wanted to make sure that the citizens of Guadalupe County are also having that option,” said Pinder.

Financial support pours in for GRMC s new Women s Imaging Center

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Jan 13, 2021 5:43 AM (Seguin) – The future GRMC Women’s Imaging Center has just gotten a double dose of financial support. Not only has a local business stepped in but a department within Guadalupe Regional Medical Center has also contributed $10,000 toward the fundraising campaign for the future state-of-the-art imaging center for women. The new space is being described as a “private, beautifully appointed center adjacent to the Imaging Department” and will feature individual exam rooms. Hospital officials say once completed, the imaging center will provide patients with all the latest technology in combating women’s health issues including breast care and early cancer detection.

COVID-19 restrictions back in Guadalupe County

This means that restaurants will again have to reduce their capacity, and it could also force some bars to close completely. Bryce Houlton, Guadalupe County Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator, delivered the news during Tuesday’s meeting of the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court. Houlton says the number of positive COVID-19 cases is again on the rise. “As of (Tuesday) morning, (the) confirmed active cases in New Braunfels (was) 18, 42 in Cibolo, 50 in Seguin, 30 in Schertz, three in Marion, one in Selma and 81 in the unincorporated areas for a confirmed active total of 225. Health officials at the GRMC say they are thankful to Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio for “blessing” the GRMC lab with a $140,000 grant for lab testing equipment, equipment they say will now expedite results. Cody Knowlton, Baptist Health Foundation president and CEO, says the foundation is committed to serving those who serve others.
