Malaysia’s five top telecommunications companies; Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile and Telekom Malaysia (TM) will be rolling out “Special Data Packages” for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) candidates and provide mobile phones for students from low-income (B40) families.
According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the offer includes a pre-paid data pass of 15GB for 30-days at RM20 from 6 January till April 2021.
MCMC also said that students from B40 families can apply to receive a free mobile phone under the Learning From Home (LFH) program provided by the YTL Foundation, which includes a free SIM card with 40GBs worth of data.

UNEXPECTED expenditure due to the Covid-19 pandemic has forced Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to review this year’s budget and adjust its expenditure accordingly for 2021.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Mahadi Che Ngah said DBKL saw an RM800mil drop in revenue this year, from a projected revenue of RM2.52bil, due to the pandemic and subsequent movement control order.
“We allowed for payment waivers and other discounts to Kuala Lumpur residents and this affected our initial projected revenue.

LUMPUR: The first national budget under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government was passed at the Dewan Rakyat today after it received the majority support of the MPs through bloc voting.
The budget or the Supply Bill 2021, tabled for the third reading by Minister of Finance Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, was passed after 111 MPs voted in favour, 108 against, and one MP was absent.
The bill had undergone 10 days of debate and winding up by every ministry at the committee stage after it was passed at the policy stage on Nov 26.

COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) saw a new norm in the Dewan Rakyat when three Members of Parliament, who are undergoing home quarantine, turned up fully clad in personal protective equipment (PPE) to participate in the voting process.
The three are Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (BN-Tenggara), Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (BN-Tapah) and P. Prabakaran (PH-Batu), who were seen seated on the highest floor of the House, away from the other MPs.
Dr Adham is Health Minister while Saravanan is Human Resources Minister. Prabakaran is the country’s youngest MP.
They were clad in full white aprons, along with a blue shower cap and a visor.
