3 people airlifted off unsafe ice on Lake St. Clair: police

Three people were airlifted to safety after becoming stranded while ice fishing Saturday on Lake St. Clair near Mitchell’s Bay.
A helicopter crew from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Air Station Detroit rescued them.

“Conditions changed and they got stranded, but luckily it was good enough weather and they had cellphones, so they were able to get help and we were able to find them,” said Lt. Matthew Zavalij, a Coast Guard public affairs officer.
Military and coast guard personnel scoured the waters off Victoria, B.C. Tuesday evening after receiving reports of a downed aircraft with one person on board.
