BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - The condition of Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball player Ronne Readus has improved nearly two weeks after he was badly injured in a car accident, his family said in statement released by the school on Monday.
“We are blessed to tell you that Ronne has taken great strides in his long recovery. His condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, thank the Lord! Ronne is currently stable, awake, alert, and breathing on his own,” the statement said.
The senior center was injured March 31 in San Diego and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Following a difficult journey battling COVID-19, Sharp Healthcare ER nurse Danny Plata said he s a miracle because, after nearly three months, he walked out of the hospital on Monday.
The beloved nurse was treated with a round of applause and cheers as he walked out of Sharp Memorial Monday afternoon. Plata has spent nearly the last three months relying on his colleagues.

“It s amazing,” Plata said. I m literally a miracle.
The father of two said doctors and nurses at Sharp Memorial did everything at the perfect time to save his life.

SAN DIEGO A South Bay nurse who has been hospitalized with COVID since January is making a remarkable recovery.
As he walked out on his own with an oxygen tank in tow, a parade of healthcare workers at Sharp Memorial and Sharp Chula Vista and family cheered him on. They wanted to wheelchair me out but I was determined to walk out,” said Daniel.

An 87-year-old San Diego woman has died from injuries suffered in a Kearny Mesa crash days earlier, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jeanette Brooks was driving a blue Honda when she veered across lanes at Othello Avenue and Convoy Street on March 24 and was struck by another vehicle, according to the medical examiner and reporting from OnScene TV. She had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Brooks was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with multiple blunt force injuries. She died on Monday.
