A YOUTH club in Kendal has revealed its long-awaited first meeting dates amid the news that a charity is to withdraw a separate service. Kendal Youth Zone has pencilled-in three outdoor events in July as it looks to finally get off the ground after being delayed by the pandemic. It comes after the announcement by Leonard Cheshire that the YouthAbility project - a youth club for disabled people aged eight and above - was being discontinued in Kendal. Town councillor Adam Edwards, who is heading the Youth Zone project and is chairman of Sandylands Residents Association, said: I think it s brought home the fact that we have actually been relying heavily on charities to look after our kids.
REPORTS of recent anti-social behaviour on a Kendal housing estate include one of screws being put under car tyres. The news came as police announced they had been patrolling Sandylands and dealt with a number of youths there in past weeks. They urged people to keep reporting any anti-social behaviour . On social media this week, a Sandylands resident said her children had spotted a screw under each front wheel of the car on her drive. She said the screws were pointed upwards so it appeared the action had been a deliberate attempt to damage or deflate the tyres. People are getting a bit concerned, said Cllr Adam Edwards, chairman of Sandylands Residents Association.
A KENDAL councillor has reiterated the importance of getting his long-delayed youth club up-and-running following anecdotal reports of young people causing ‘nuisance’ on one of the town’s estates. Issues on Sandylands include damage to Christmas decorations in people’s gardens and the baubles on the Christmas tree erected next to the estate’s play area being smashed. There have also been reports of youths playing ‘knock door run’ - knocking on residents’ doors and running off before occupants answer. “It is a bit of a concern because of the current pandemic, and now that we’ve got this new strain as well,” said town councillor Adam Edwards.
