That’s a goal of the new math curriculum being taught in elementary schools.
Jordan Temple, the numeracy lead for the Kenora Catholic District School Board, says they’re hoping to create resilient learners through the new curriculum.
“In order to do that, they have to realize that struggle is actually a good thing. When they were a baby taking their first steps they probably fell down,” says Temple, “Most people when they try something in math if they struggle they decide they’re not a math person and want to stop.”
He goes on to say that’s one thing they’re trying to change.
