Since March 10, when the first death was reported, 18,355 Michiganders have died from the acute respiratory illness. A Breakdown of COVID-19 Data The 24-hour data increase shows that 2,171 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 17 new deaths. On Saturday, May 23 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also announced changes to how COVID-19 testing data is reported to make it more accurate and relevant as the state continues to expand diagnostic testing.
