12 PUEBLO, Colo. – The month of May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to honor and reflect on the accomplishments and sacrifices of Asians and Pacific Islanders who made their mark in the United States. During May, the Army joins the nation in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Two vastly different journeys from Asian Pacific countries more than 1,000 miles apart united two U.S. Army Soldiers on their mission to earning their American citizenship.
U.S. Army Spc. Patrick De Castro, a native of San Pablo, Philippines, and U.S. Army Pfc. Tuan Tran, a native of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, both combat medics assigned to 704th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, are both deployed to the Community Vaccination Center (CVC) at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo, Colorado, in support of the federal vaccination mission. Pueblo County currently has some of the lowest vaccination rates and highest COVID-19 hospitalization rates in Colorado, and health officials are working hard to let people know that it’s easier than ever to access the shot.
As of May 7, 35.8% of people in Pueblo were fully vaccinated, according to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment. The goal to achieve herd immunity is a 70% vaccination rate. That leaves a lot of opportunity for the virus to spread in our community if people are not vaccinated, and there’s going to be a percentage of all of those people that end up in the hospital,” PDPHE Director Randy Evetts said.
State Fair Grounds vaccine clinic offering Johnson & Johnson shot
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available at the Pueblo Community Vaccination Site this weekend.
On Saturday, May 8, people can go to the Colorado State Fair Grounds to receive the one-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
The clinic is accepting both appointments and walk-ins.

More than 2 million Coloradans fully vaccinated
COLORADO (KRDO) Governor Jared Polis announced more than two million Coloradans are now fully vaccinated.
Additionally, 674,000 people have already received one dose and are now waiting until it s time to take their second dose.
However, Gov. Polis says there is room for improvement.
Vaccines are available to more than 4.7 million Coloradans over the age of 16.
Gov. Polis says walk-up appointments are available at the Colorado State Fair Grounds in Pueblo and the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs.
This Saturday, the vaccine center in Pueblo is offering the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
