On top of Esperon’s priority list are the strengthening of the country’s position in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) and ending the menace of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
According to Esperon, the country’s maritime dispute with China and other claimant countries in the WPS “is a problem that can be solved not in our lifetime.”
“Might as well strengthen our positions, not to the point of going to war but through the West Philippine Sea code,” said Esperon in a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin, moments after Duterte delivered his sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday night, July 26.

Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne has affirmed Australia’s
position which is guided by principled support for international law and the 1982
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
In a statement
regarding the ruling of the
Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), which is
based in The Hague (the Netherlands) on July 12, 2016, on disputes in the East
Sea, Payne stated that the 1982 UNCLOS sets out the legal framework within
which all activities in the oceans and seas must be carried out.

Home-quarantine to be piloted nationwide
Vietnam will pilot a nationwide home-quarantine programme for F1 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients.
The move was made by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam following the Ministry of Health’s proposal.
At an online meeting on HCM City’s Covid-19 situation held on Monday, Dam said that he had received many opinions suggesting the home-quarantine.
At present, the pilot home quarantine is being applied in HCM City. People who come into close contact with Covid-19 patients can quarantine themselves at home for 28 days, but strictly following regulations.
