how much room was there for Mandela to maneuver
? South Africa now lurches from crisis to crisis, and so many of us are tempted to remember the Mandela years – especially the first democratic government – as fundamentally different from the crony-capitalist, corruption-riddled, brutally-securitised, eco-destructive and anti-egalitarian regime we suffer now. But were the seeds of our present political weeds sown earlier?

Islamabad : Vaccination of the people against coronavirus will be a huge challenge for the government and the rural support programmes can help ensure an access of the residents of far-flung areas to the vaccine, said Islamabad deputy commissioner Hamza Shafqaat on Thursday.
He was speaking during the National Convention of LSOs 2021, which was held by the Rural Support Programme Network (RSPN) online. This year, the themes of the annual event were the Role of Community-Driven Development in Socio-Economic Empowerment of Rural Communities in Pakistan; and Community Institutions and their Response to COVID-19 in Partnership with Government and Donors; and as well as Empowering Communities to Improve Nutrition and Economic Opportunities.

The DSWD said facility turnover, which was held on Feb. 18, was aimed at providing assistance to the communities for the management of COVID-19 pandemic,
“The facility, which costs P 2,363,136, is a subproject implemented through DSWD’s KALAHI-CIDSS (Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services) program, together with the Municipal Government of Barobo and community volunteers in Barangay Tambis,” it said in a statement.
Around 7,093 individuals or 1,511 households in Barangay Tambis in Barobo town are expected to be served by the 186.6-square meter quarantine facility, which was completed in October 2020, the DSWD Caraga said.
“It is complete with a nurse station and three isolation rooms. Each isolation room has a three-bed capacity, a restroom, and a lavatory.”
