In 2013 the government adopted a comprehensive strategy to overhaul the territoryâs waste management system from the ground up. Most of its plans were not accomplished, but now leaders are hosting public consultations on a new draft strategy that includes many of the same goals â while also incorporating lessons from hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The recent seaport reopening has come with some âteething pains,â but it has been an overall success, Premier Andrew Fahie said on April 29 in the House of Assembly.
Between the April 15 reopening and on April 29, 279 visitors and residents came to the Virgin Islands by sea, according to Mr. Fahie.

At the same time that Health and Social Development Minister Carvin Malone was providing an update on derelict vehicle removal efforts in the House of Assembly last month, he noted the return of a barge that recently carried approximately 2,000 tonnes of scrap metal to Colombia after departing here on Feb. 25.

A plan for managing the territoryâs borders during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has been drafted and provided to members of the National Security Council, Premier Andrew Fahie said last Thursday in the House of Assembly in response to a question from opposition member Mitch Turnbull.
However, when pressed for details about the plan, the cost of barges used for surveying territorial waters, and the size of the marine fleet across all law enforcement agencies, Mr. Fahie declined to provide any information, citing potential risks to law enforcement officers and possible impediments to government functions.
