New regulations are expected to enable transgender people to change their gender in the Population Registry and on their official ID cards even if they have not undergone gender reassignment surgery. This is one of the recommendations made by a joint committee of the Justice and Social Services Ministries, and is included in the interim report of the committee for the advancement of Israel’s transgender population. The joint committee was headed by Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber and the deputy director general of the Social Affairs Ministry, Avi Motola.
The new policy would be implemented under the auspices of the Administrator General’s office in the Justice Ministry, which would be authorized to issue transgender individuals an administrative document confirming the gender change regardless of whether they have undergone gender reassignment surgery – which would them enable them to change their gender on other official documents.
Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanon’s Parliament has endorsed a landmark law criminalising sexual harassment that could see the most flagrant perpetrators spend up to four years in prison and pay fines up to 50 times the minimum wage.
“It’s a very good law that should serve as a deterrent,” said Danielle Hoyek, a lawyer with gender equality organisation ABAAD, on Monday.
“It also provides a little bit of hope during this economic and social crisis Lebanon is going through. It shows that we aren’t living by the law of the jungle, that there are laws that you can lean on,” she told Al Jazeera.

Vaccination will be free and is divided into three stages, the first of which will cover citizens and residents who are over 65 years old; professionals who are most vulnerable to infection; people who are obese and have a body mass of more than 40; those who have a lack of immunity or take immunosuppressive drugs; and those who have two or more chronic diseases, such as asthma, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The second stage includes citizens and residents who are over 50 years old, the rest of health practitioners, and those who have one chronic disease.
