Sarasota-Manatee s status as a leisure travel destination with plenty of easily accessible outdoor activities made it an attractive place to vacation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The area has also benefitted from the wide distribution of the COVID vaccines.  Sarasota-Bradenton airport has also seen an influx of new flights over the past few months. Southwest Airlines launched at the airport in February and plans to serve 19 destinations by the end of the year. Other carriers like Allegiant Air and Elite Airways have launched new services.  And other airlines like United Airlines and Delta Air Lines extended some service through the usually slow summer.
