Man freed from Scoular grain elevator east of Salina

A man was freed and taken to the hospital Thursday after falling into a grain storage facility and getting trapped. The incident happened early Thursday afternoon at the Scoular grain elevator on East Country Club Road, just east of Salina, next to Exline Inc. It sounds like the subject went into the tower to remove (a) clog, said Troy Long, fire marshal for the Salina Fire Department (SFD), which responded to the scene. Long said it appeared the man fell onto a grain mover system that pushed him into a 2-foot by 2-foot square area, and a conveyor belt shot him to the other side.

Salina Regional Health Center relaxing visiting rules amid COVID-19

The Salina Journal Recognizing improving COVID-19 infection numbers in the community, Salina Regional Health Center announced modifications to its visiting guidelines. The hospital said, effective March 5, inpatients can have one visitor per day instead of one designated visitor for the duration of the patient s hospital stay. Emergency department patients will also be allowed one visitor to accompany them. Visitors had not been allowed in the department since November. “These changes give families more flexibility and allows them to alternate visitors each day during a patient’s stay in the hospital,” said Bethanie McDowell, infection prevention director at Salina Regional Health Center. “It also allows family members and loved ones to be more directly involved in patient care in the Emergency Department.”
