Saudi Ministry directs mosques to limit use of external loud speakers

The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs issued a circular to all its branches in the Kingdom requiring that mosques be directed to limit the use of external loudspeakers to raising the call to prayer (Athan) and Iqama only.
The ministry indicated in a statement published on its official website that the loudness of the devices should not exceed a third of the level of the loudspeaker, and that legal action should be taken against whoever violates.
The ministry relied on the circular signed by Minister Sheikh Abdul Latif Al Sheikh, this decision is a procedure for managing and controlling mosques, which number about 98,000 mosques, according to the figures of the Saudi Statistics Authority in 2017.
The move follows the directives of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The chairman of the Supreme Council of Imams and Islamic Affairs in Latin America and the Caribbean expressed appreciation to Saudi King for directing competent authorities to ship one million copies of the holy book in more than 21 languages to 29 countries.
In a statement, Sheikh Abdul Al Hamid Metwally, said, “We received these directives with joy, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nevertheless, it did not prevent the Kingdom from fulfilling its duty not only to serve the Two Holy Mosques but to serve the Quran in Ramadan, the month in which the Quran was revealed, thus it sets an example in preserving the Quran and spreading its meanings in different languages.”

Al-Alfi: Saudi cultural and social programs in Latin America commended
The Uruguay-based Islamic Center’s General Secretary Ibrahim El-Desouky Al-Alfi praised the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Ramadan breakfast and dates distribution programs, noting that Saudi Arabia has managed to continue feeding the needy despite the global spread of coronavirus pandemic.
