Nearly $60 million in funding for Saskatoon’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) is an investment federal minister Melanie Joly thinks will age well.
“There is some investments that have a lot of impact, more than others sometimes,” Joly, the federal Minister of Economic Development and minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification, said Friday in an interview.

Saskatchewan’s environment minister says he was taken off guard by ambitious new federal climate targets that provide “a very, very short runway” for the province’s industries to adapt.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday that Canada will now aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by between 40 and 45 per cent by 2030, compared to 2005 levels. That’s considerably stronger than the previous target of 30 per cent or even the 36 per cent reduction forecast under existing policies.
