Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to Sunset Hills and McBean Parkway in Valencia regarding a theft call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Upon arrival, deputies learned an off-duty officer with an outside agency observed a known vehicle from past porch thefts driving on Brookdale Court and Springtree Place in Valencia,” Arriaga said.

Deputies were first alerted to two theft suspects after an off-duty law enforcement officer contacted the station around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies responded to the neighborhood near the intersection of Sunset Hills and McBean Parkway in Valencia, after receiving a “theft-occurring-now call,” according to an email from Deputy Natalie Arriaga of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Upon arrival, deputies learned the off-duty officer, who was not identified by Sheriff’s Station officials, noticed a vehicle from “past porch thefts” driving near the intersection of Brookdale Court and Springtree Place in Valencia, Arriaga noted.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a possible robbery call on Poe Parkway in Stevenson Ranch, said Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. On their way to respond to the call, deputies spotted a vehicle near Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital that matched the description provided by an informant of the suspect’s vehicle, according to officials. Sheriff’s deputies conducted a felony traffic stop in front of the hospital off of McBean Parkway, where deputies proceeded to detain the driver at gunpoint, according to officials.

Weekend Arrests Slightly Decline Over Holiday Weekend Despite the longer holiday weekend, a slight decline in weekend arrests was reported compared to the previous weekend. A total of 26 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, six fewer arrests from the previous weekend, according to weekend arrest logs. Of these arrests, 45 percent were made on charges related to drugs and alcohol. Four of those charges were reported as drivers under the influence (DUI) of drugs, alcohol or both. Another four of those 11 arrests were reported as possession of a controlled substance or narcotics.
