ORCUTT, Calif. - A child has been hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in an Orcutt neighborhood Friday evening.
It happened around 5:35 p.m. Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the crash on the 1500 block of Jenson Ranch Road along with a CALSTAR helicopter and AMR ambulance.
The first arriving fire engine reported that the child was about 10 years old and in serious condition due to potentially critical injuries.
Paramedics from County Fire and AMR treated the child at the scene before transferring them to staff on board the CALSTAR helicopter.
The child was then flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.

Looking back over my life, you could say I have a tendency for living on the edge.
That tendency probably started in early 1967 while serving as a forward observer in Vietnam. One of my occasional duties was to call in defensive concentrations to protect our troops (U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division) in case of an attack on their frequent moves throughout the Central Highlands.
Most of those aerial missions were conducted from a UH-1D (better known as a Huey helicopter) from approximately 1,000 feet in the air. To properly complete those air missions, I’d have to hang out of the Huey with my upper body and pass on my verbal instructions to my radio telephone operator. That was risky business.
