Encinitas district school earns top honor for civic learning

They hosted a virtual meeting with the top schools recently. “I’m so proud of these schools for keeping students engaged in civic learning during a pandemic, especially as our country grapples with serious social and civic conversations and actions that can reimagine governance at all levels,” Thurmond said in a statement. Cloud Campus in the Encinitas Union School District was among 32 California schools to receive the top-level Civic Learning Award of Excellence. Cloud Campus is a distance-learning option that integrates civics lessons into elementary classrooms. It was offered in 2020 to 430 students. San Diego schools puts in a new anti-racist system with no grades The second-largest public school district, San Diego Unified School District in California, has approved major changes to the grading-scale system to fight alleged racism in the classroom. The grading standards will be implemented over the course of the next academic year. NBC-7 reports the school district will go to mastery of the material instead of grading. They say data shows black students receive a D or F 20% of the time, white students only receive a D or F 7% of the time, and Asian students even less often. In other words, it must be RAAACIST.

SD County begins administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to youths 12-15 -

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego County began offering vaccines to San Diegans ages 12-15 Thursday, following the California Department of Public Health’s approval of the Pfizer vaccine for that age cohort last night. The Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup an interstate compact comprised of the public health departments of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Colorado to fight the pandemic approved the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds Wednesday, allowing the county’s 175,864 county youths in that age group to make appointments to receive the shots. Parental consent is required prior to vaccination for anyone under the age of 18. In addition to parental consent, minors will have to show photo ID and proof of age, or have the parent, guardian or caregiver who accompanies the minor to the appointment verify their age and identity.
