Mayo, Gundersen receive COVID-19 vaccine

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse will receive their first allocation of COVID-19 vaccines Monday afternoon in La Crosse.
Staff at greatest risk of virus exposure will begin receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine first at about noon Tuesday to protect vulnerable patients, each other and community members, according to Gundersen. The group includes COVID unit staff; Emergency Room clinicians, nurses and technicians; long-term care staff; and hospital housekeeping staff.
The hospital reminded people that while the vaccine as begun to arrive, it remains vital that people take prevention steps seriously. Mayo Clinic Health System has a new team member, Luca.
Luca is a big, lovable black lab working alongside health care workers as a service dog.
He’ll be spending time with cancer and occupational therapy patients, joining Mayo’s first service dog, Luna, in helping those in need of a furry friend.
“With the pandemic, the patients aren’t allowed to have visitors coming in with them that normally would. So they’re coming into the cancer center alone, facing something that’s scary, a major life-changing event. So just having another distraction, someone to visit them, just makes the journey easier,” said Mayo occupational therapist, Grace Skiles.

The league donated $500 Friday, which comes during a match day.
Members of La Crosse’s Riverfest hosted the match.
Donations of up to $10,000 on Friday were matched.
“We miss Riverfest, but a lot of their smiling faces are back out. And so it’s just a fun day to be out in the community, have our community celebrities of Riverfest out and about and helping the Salvation Army,” said Salvation Army of La Crosse County development director Christina Knudsen.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KEYC) - Mayo Clinic Health System will begin administering the first vaccines to health care workers Monday.
Mayo in Rochester will give its first doses of the vaccine to healthcare workers Friday.
Meanwhile, Windom Area Health says it will receive an allotment of the Pfizer vaccine next week, with vaccinations beginning on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday depending on the number of doses they receive.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A La Crosse doctor is answering the public’s questions and concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. It will take time until the vaccine will be available for the general public.
Pfizer’s vaccine is in the U.S. and anything new and unfamiliar raises questions. Mayo Clinic Health Systems Dr. Daniel DeSimone answered some common questions the health system received.
When I am able to get the vaccine, what will it be like?
