SEPA directs builder to halt construction Suspends construction of a building on Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue in Defence Housing Authority phase-VIII PHOTO: REUTERS KARACHI: The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued an Environmental Protection Order (EPO) to Messrs Creek Marina Builders and Developers, directing the company to suspend construction of a building on Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue in Defence Housing Authority phase-VIII, it emerged on Tuesday. According to the EPO, the company has been served the notice over its failure to file the mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA), as required by the law. Besides, SEPA director-general Naeem Ahmed Mughal has maintained in the EPO that the builder in question was offered an opportunity of a personal hearing on February 15, 2021, to submit a reply over the company s non-compliance with the SEPA Act, 2014.

KARACHI: An advisory committee on the review of the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 will be notified as soon as the required nominations are received from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). This was said by environment, climate change and coastal development secretary Mohammad Aslam Ghauri while speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-day symposium on integrated solid waste management. The event was jointly organised by the KCCI, Society of Economic Geologists and Mineral Technologists (SEGMITE) and Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa). “The department has sent a letter seeking nominations from KCCI for the advisory committee being set up for the consultation process to improve and make the environmental law more effective,” said Mr Ghauri.

The request was made by former Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) head Zubair Motiwala on behalf of the business community during the inaugural session of a two-day symposium titled Integrated Solid Waste Management , organised by the KCCI.
