The Sindh High Court has instructed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to halt the anti-encroachment drive along the Orangi and Gujjar nullahs during Eid holidays.
During a hearing against the anti-encroachment drive on Friday, the court remarked that residents should not be evicted from their houses during the holidays.
The KMC and district administration began the anti-encroachment drive on February 25. Orangi and Gujjar nullahs are two of the three storm water drains that are being widened to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater.

The new coronavirus restrictions in Sindh will be imposed on May 9 and stay in force till May 16, a notification by the province’s home department stated.
The decision was taken to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. According to the directives issued on Friday, it was decided to reduce mobility and movement during Eidul Fitr.

The premier is accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other dignitaries.

Inventing a metre won t stop coronavirus, he said. The chief minister, addressing a press conference in the capital, said the coronavirus situation in the country was getting more serious by the day, as he called on the government to change its strategy. The chief minister said inter-provincial transport should be banned for at least two weeks, just as Sindh had banned inter-provincial transport earlier.
The chief minister said in the National Coordination Committee meeting held a few days earlier, he had recommended putting a stop to the intercity transport.
