SHARE ON: Photo supplied by: District of Muskoka UPDATE, 01/19: Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner has declared the outbreak at The Pines over. A staff member at The Pines Long-Term Care Home in Bracebridge has tested positive, but no other positive tests have been announced. Officials with the home say the infected employee is self-isolating at home. “The home area where the staff member worked has been declared in outbreak status and as an added precaution, residents this staff member was in contact with have been placed on isolation precautions,” officials add. “The families of the affected residents have now been notified. Testing of all residents in the home area will take place tomorrow. The District (of Muskoka) and (Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit) are working closely to monitor and respond to the situation.”

Simcoe Muskoka logs 87 new COVID-19 cases, including a dozen children

  BARRIE, ONT. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) logged 87 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including a dozen children. So far this week has a total of 398 confirmed cases, a new weekly record for the region. Despite being in a lockdown, the health unit predicts cases will continue to increase to 600 per week by the last week of January. In the fall, daily cases averaged from less than one to more than 16 per day. Cases began to surge to nearly 50 a day by late-December. There are 1,251 active infections across Simcoe County and Muskoka, including 24 patients in local hospitals. The health unit s medical officer of health, Dr. Charles Gardner, said on Tuesday during a Facebook live briefing that there were 10 additional deaths over the holidays. All of these individuals lived in Simcoe County, none were in Muskoka, he noted.  The region s death toll is at 70.

Staff member at Bracebridge seniors home tests positive for COVID-19

  BARRIE, ONT. There are now 14 institutional outbreaks in Simcoe Muskoka following confirmation of a staff member case at a Bracebridge long-term care home. According to the District of Muskoka, a staff member working at the Pines Long-Term Care Home has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member is said to be symptomatic as of Tuesday morning and in isolation at home. The area in the long-term care home where the staff member worked has been declared in outbreak status by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. As an added measure, the district says all residents the infected staff member came into contact with have been placed on isolation precautions.
