Viral test backlog declared over – Bostic

The backlog of COVID-19 test results should have been cleared by Wednesday, according to Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.
He gave an assurance that operations at the Best-Dos Santos Public Health Laboratory had returned to normal following the acquisition of a chemical reagent to speed up the process.
Lt Col Bostic said it was imperative that test results be brought up to date to make an accurate assessment of positivity rates and the pervasiveness of COVID-19 in Barbados.
He revealed that as of Sunday, 534 tests were performed which yielded 63 positive cases.

A nine-year-old is among three people who passed away as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the number of deaths to 28, the Ministry of Health and Wellness said a short while ago.
There were 126 new positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, February 15.
The new cases include results of samples from over a 12-day period, as the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory works to reduce the backlog created by the temporary use of manual extraction in the processing of samples.
The laboratory conducted 1 251 tests on Monday.
Thirty-eight people recovered and were discharged from isolation. There are now 731 active cases.
