With a January 20 deadline for comments fast approaching, standing Committee on Technology members proposed some last-minute changes to The Florida Bar’s proposed “Recommended Best Practices Guide for Remote Court Proceedings.”
At a January 11 videoconference meeting, several committee members zeroed in on Remote Procedures Applicable to All Proceedings 1.12: “The preferred videoconferencing platform is Zoom.”
Some committee members expressed concern that the recommendation was too specific, considering that some judicial circuits are using alternate platforms, including WebEx and Microsoft Teams.
“Is there a need to offer a preferred platform within this guidance?” asked Vice Chair Joshua Marks.

The Guide provides useful information on UN sanctions prohibitions as well as best practices guidance for the implementation of UN sanctions by stakeholders. Whilst the Guide is primarily targeted at Chairs and members of UN sanctions committees, it is also intended to serve as guidance for the entire network of UN sanctions implementation stakeholders.
Compliance & Capacity Skills International has produced and published a revised version of the Best Practices Guide for Chairs and Members of United Nations Sanctions Committees. This follows from an extensive consultation process involving both state and non-state actors including, amongst others, representatives of Member States, members of the Security Council, private companies and human rights and gender-based violence specialists. The project was supported and sponsored by the governments of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.
California Commercial Dungeness Crab Update
Proving that the Risk Assessment Mitigation Program is successfully striking a balance between the needs of the commercial Dungeness crab fleet and protection of marine life, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will open the commercial season statewide on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, allowing the fleet a chance to get Dungeness crab on California tables before the holiday season ends.
This statewide opener ends delays in place due to meat quality in the northern management area (NMA) and the potential for whale entanglement in the central management area (CMA). It also gives the fleet ample time for planning and gear preparation and promotes an orderly start to the fishery. For the NMA Fishing Zones 1 and 2, the pre-soak period will begin Sunday, Dec. 20 at 8:01 a.m. and for the CMA, Fishing Zones 3, 4, 5 and 6, the pre-soak period will begin Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 6:01 a.m.
