New Delhi: With strains of UK mutant of coronavirus making an entry into the country, the virus monitoring agencies have undertaken a hunt to trace and isolate the likely carriers of the deadly disease. According to a report in the Times of India, the country has been divided into six regions for a molecular hunt of the virus.
10 regional laboratories have been tasked to sequence positive samples through RT-PCR tests under INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium) comprising of (NIBMG Kolkata, ILS Bhubaneswar, NIV Pune, CCS Pune, CCMB Hyderabad, CDFD Hyderabad, InSTEM Bengaluru, NIMHANS Bengaluru, IGIB Delhi, NCDC Delhi) for genome sequencing.
New Delhi, Dec 30: Passenger flights between the UK and India would remain suspended till January 7 and they will resume in a “strictly regulated” manner thereafter, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had last week suspended all flights between the European country and India from December 23 to December 31 as a mutated variant of the coronavirus was detected there.
Puri said on Twitter: “Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from the UK till 7 January 2021.”
“Thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly.” he said. (PTI)

In the wake of the new UK variant of coronavirus infection, DGCA on Wednesday extended the suspension on scheduled commercial international flights till January 31, 2021. The restrictions, however this shall not apply to international air-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA. Government of India extends suspension of scheduled commercial international flights till January 31, 2021, said the civil aviation regulator. The DGCA, however clarified that International Scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on case to case basis.

Civil Aviation Ministry Working To Maintain Cold Chain For Transporting COVID-19 Vaccine
As coronavirus vaccines are temperature-sensitive, the present cold chain system and equipment for the storage of vaccines need to be thoroughly tested.
As India concludes its 2-day vaccination dry run, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry announced that they were working with the Health Ministry to make all necessary arrangements to maintain the integrity of cold chain during the nationwide transportation of the vaccine. As coronavirus vaccines are temperature-sensitive, the present cold chain system and equipment for the storage of vaccines need to be thoroughly tested ahead of the expected vaccination drive in January 2021, as per the Ministry.
