Fans are back at the Siskiyou Speedway

Siskiyou Daily News Fans are now allowed back at the Siskiyou Motor Speedway, located at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds in Yreka. While the speedway had some races last summer after the pandemic hit in March, fans weren t allowed. Race promotor Kevin Barba said they were approved to allow fans on the Monday before the first race on April 3, so they scrambled to get everything ready. A total of 750 fans were allowed, although due to the late notice, about 100 fans showed up. Barba is hopeful more fans will flock to the Fairgrounds this Saturday. Food and beer booths should be up and running. County officials will allow 950 fans at this weekend s races.

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 1,000 doses are being made available, although slots are filling steadily since the clinic was announced Wednesday afternoon. A total of 7,630 Siskiyou residents have received a two-dose vaccine, public health representative Jonathan Himbert told the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning, representing about 18% of the population. He said he s expecting a big surge  after the April 15 clinic. Siskiyou County moved to the less restrictive orange COVID-19 reopening tier on Wednesday, and active cases have dropped dramatically over the past month. COVID-19: Siskiyou remains mired in purple reopening tier

The state s latest evaluation on Tuesday shows that Siskiyou County is experiencing 9.4 new cases of COVID-19 per day and has a positivity rate of 7.3%. California moves its counties through a tiered reopening system – the Blueprint for a Safer Economy – using these metrics. Siskiyou County has been in the most restrictive purple, or widespread  tier since November of 2020, even as all surrounding North State counties have recently progressed to the red substantial tier. In order to move to the red tier, which would allow bars to reopen and restaurants to serve customers indoors, the county needs its case rate to drop from the current 9.4 to below 7. The county s 7.3% positivity rate is low enough to move to the red tier, said Siskiyou County Public Health Information Officer Angelica Cook.

Siskiyou sees decline in COVID as some residents receive second vaccine dose

Siskiyou sees decline in COVID as some residents receive second vaccine dose Mount Shasta Herald Siskiyou County is seeing a decline in COVID-19 cases, but public health officials urge residents to continue protecting themselves by social distancing, washing hands and wearing masks until more vaccines can be administered. Although a great emphasis is put on vaccinations, Siskiyou County moving down the state s Blueprint for a Safer Economy tier system depends on testing to concretely illustrate a decline in case rates. As of Feb. 2, 6,527 COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered in Siskiyou County from state allotments, Public Health Director Shelly Davis told the Siskiyou County Supervisors at their meeting Tuesday.  Of those, 4,666 have been administered, Davis added. We have both hospitals participating, including Fairchild and Dignity Health, (which) are administering them to patients who meet the criteria.
