Credit: PA The two main political figures that represent the handling of the pandemic in Wales have both secured their biggest majorities in the Senedd election. Mark Drakeford, who is set to remain as the country s First Minister, and health minister Vaughan Gething, held onto their seats in Cardiff West and Cardiff South and Penarth after what can only be described as one of the most challenging years for them as politicians and leaders. Welsh Labour leader Mr Drakeford, who has been the face of government decision-making since the coronavirus pandemic hit, said his party had exceeded expectations which ended Friday with 30 seats, just one short of a majority.

The Martha s Vineyard Times Steamship Authority changes course on hay The Steamship Authority will now allow the transport of hay on all its vessels. – Rich Saltzberg The Steamship Authority has loosened its restrictions on hay transportation following an uptick in farmer discontent on the subject.  Vineyard farmers complained in January that SSA policy on hay had become more restrictive and compromised a vital resource for the upkeep of livestock. At the time, the SSA claimed its policy remained unchanged. “There has been no change in SSA policy regarding transportation of hay,” SSA spokesman Sean Driscoll said in January. “Regardless of whether or not it is in a semi, hay must be transported on an open-air vessel as a safety measure, as it is highly flammable. Any instances that hay would have been taken in an enclosed vessel would have been with the permission of and at the discretion of the vessel’s captain.”

Speed, jake braking cited as problems on Woods Hole Road

FALMOUTH The Select Board on Monday authorized a letter to be sent to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation asking for assistance on speeding and the weight of trucks traveling along Woods Hole Road. “The volumes of traffic on Woods Hole Road continue to expand,” Town Manager Julian Suso wrote in the letter on behalf of the Select Board. “The number of trucks carrying significant loads and expanding vehicle speeds are extremely concerning, all contributing to challenging public safety issues.” Select Board member Doug Jones, who is also a member of the Woods Hole/Falmouth Noise & Traffic Mitigation Working Group, raised concerns at the board s March 22 meeting about some issues on the roadway, which leads into the village.
