ALEXANDRIA, La. â The Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office is searching for an Alexandria man in connection with a homicide that took place Friday at a local gun shop.
According to Sheriff Mark Wood, detectives have recovered a 2021 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, bearing LA license 468EKO, believed to have been used in the homicide at Liberty Arsenal on Friday, May 7.
RPSO says that Ramonte Lamar Jackson, 23, of Alexandria, is wanted for one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted First Degree Murder in connection with the homicide.
Everyone knows the family, someone said. Some of those at Monday s meeting were related to them.
And all of them wanted to know why two men went into Liberty Arsenal and allegedly shot brothers David Paul and Michael Paul before fleeing. David died at the scene; Michael is in critical but stable condition in an intensive-care unit. Absolutely ridiculously senseless, Rapides Parish District Attorney Phillip Terrell called the shooting.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office is handling the case, and Sheriff Mark Wood was to have addressed the group Monday night.
But, not long before the meeting s start with a dinner of jambalaya, detectives detained another suspect, one whose name hadn t been publicized like two others, after a chase that ended on Interstate 49 South at Broadway Avenue.
RPSO Deputies responded to what was initially reported as a shooting in the Liberty Arsenal off Highway 28 this morning.
They have confirmed that one victim is deceased and the other victim has been transported to a local hospital for gun shot wounds. Currently, there is no suspect information.
Detectives are interested in a black SUV, unknown model, that was seen in the area at the time of the incident.
If anyone has any information on this incident, they are asked to call the Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office at 318-473-6700 or Crime Stoppers at 318-443-7867.
LIBERTY â For local historian Christopher Harris, the Liberty Arsenal, located south of town, has provided the inspiration for his latest book, a chronological history text about the people who were involved with the military storage facility over the years. The depot was seized twice by Southern partisans, once during the Kansas troubles in 1855, and again shortly after the outbreak of the American Civil War.
Harris, who is well known for his local research and his work at the Clay County Archives, published âThe Liberty Arsenal: An Ordnance Depot on the Missouri Frontierâ in July. Prior to the publishing, Harris, along with a local student, managed to contact the current land owner and spend time on the property. A cistern was found and a north wall. Then the desire to write the timeline hit.
